Welcome and Introductory Post

Welcome to Eid ka Chand, which translates to "The Moon of Eid" from Hindi. This community is a place to discuss the representation of Islam and Muslim characters in fictional works, be they in film, television, comics or novels.

It is also a community where you can post or link to fan or original fiction about Islamic fictional characters. The fic does not need to deal with Eid or Islam. However, it does need to feature a Muslim character as a main lead. Fanvids and fanmixes are also welcome. Links to relevant blog or media articles are acceptable, as are cross-posts.

Posting is public and unmoderated for now, we hope that we do not have to change that status later on.

We will be marking the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr and other Muslim festivals over the year.

This community should be a safe space for people of all identities, and no offensiveness towards religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, age, size or ability will be tolerated.

I hope you aren't offended by members who don't know much at all about Islam, much less how well/poorly it's portrayed in media, but who would like to learn more about said portrayal so I can be a more-effective ally. I promise I am housebroken and know when to keep my stinkin' mouth shut rather than demanding Islam 101. ;)

(I was a religious studies major, and we had an awesome scholar of Islam at my college, but all the classes were at 8AM! This made me so upset, because I went to every single one of his evening lectures and not only was his scholarship great, his life history was fascinating.)

If you'd rather it be for more experienced people/people with a personal stake in the discussion, just let me know and I will happily bow out.

We're happy to have anyone join, as long as they aren't offensive.
We are hoping to have some more active participation, unlike the near-moribund state of its parent-comm eid_fic, so we'd encourage posts from everyone.
