[
dhobikikutti said this post would be welcome. I hope I've done an okay job of it. Please let me know if I haven't.]
I recently wrote a post about East West 101, an Australian show that features a Muslim detective as the main character. The show is about to go into its second (very short) season and I'd love to be able to share the enjoyment (hopefully) with others. For that reason, I've uploaded the first episode and will be uploading the other episodes as well.
The show was made by SBS, which is a multilingual and multicultural television and radio broadcaster, and doesn't shy away from race or religion. It also features Detective Malik's family and focuses on the Muslim community they inhabit in Sydney, as well as a number of other different communities.
I can't comment on how well Malik and his family, community and religion are portrayed because I don't have sufficient knowledge, but I can say that I find he and his wife to be very three dimensional characters and they seem to be treated with respect by the writers. As are the audience, which is a bit shocking at times.
If you're interested, please feel free to pop over to my post and download the episodes.
